History

alt.binaries.fonts.floods was created in September/October 2002 as a companion group to alt.binaries.fonts. The primary reason for creating ABFF was to relieve the congestion that flooding caused in ABF, while still providing a way for people to post floods for the benefit of the members of ABF.

Posting etiquette

As a good rule-of-thumb, posts should be at least 1Mb or larger. So that people with slower connections and more restrictive servers will have a better shot at getting ALL the pieces and thus there will (theoreticaly) be fewer reposts, please keep your archive pieces/parts size under 300KB, as they seem to remain on servers longer.

All posts should be in an archive format. RAR is the preferred format for posting multipart archives. Please use a program such as WinRAR to create multi-part archives, as this will make it easier to do fills. If you use a news reader to split your posts, and someone needs a repost, you have to repost the whole archive rather than just specific parts.

Before posting a flood, please post an 'Intent To Post Flood' message in alt.binaries.fonts eg. Subject: ITPF - TrueType Dingbats collection.

Reposts should be labelled as such, eg. Subject: REPOST - TrueType Dingbats collection.

Chatter is discouraged. Please keep all questions/comments/thank you's, etc in alt.binaries.fonts

Requests are NOT allowed. All requests should be made in alt.binaries.fonts, as requests made in ABFF will be ignored.

HTML/Rich text is not allowed.

Cross-posting is discouraged.

What IS allowed: Large font archives and font related archives, such as font editors, etc.

General

As ABFF is a companion group to ABF, most of the FAQ for ABF will apply to ABFF, except as noted otherwise in this FAQ.
